About Us.
The year was 1995 and prior to it, was the time when the North Eastern part of India was highly misrepresented and underrepresented by the national media of the country. There were many reasons as to why this was so, but the main reason was the fact that there were no qualified media practitioners from the region to counter this misrepresentation. It was this lack that prompted the founder of our department, Fr. John D. Jayakumar, SDB, to design a media course at the undergraduate level.

On September 14th, 1995, this course received the sanction of the UGC and St. Anthony’s College started this course and it became known as Mass Communication and Video Production (MCVP). This became the first of its kind in the country and had national recognition for excellence and technical facility. It was in recognition of this pioneering effort by the college that the UGC sanctioned a second professional graduate course in New Media Technologies in 2001. Collectively, the two courses form the Mass Media Department of St. Anthony’s College.
