Empowering Futures: Rudy Lyngdoh's Revolution at Sinai Training Center

-Written by Jackstraw Mushahary, Fisth Semester, Media Technologies, 2023

Rudy Lyngdoh, a graduate of the commerce department at St. Anthony's College in 2006, is a determined entrepreneur hailing from Shillong. He is the visionary behind the Sinai Training Center.

Before establishing this center, Rudy's professional journey unfolded in Delhi, where he gained valuable experience working with two or three different companies. During his time in various corporations, he underwent training in communication skills and leadership, among other vital aspects. After leaving his job in Delhi, he returned to Shillong and contributed to his brother's job placement center. At that time, he managed the organization and provided free training for 1 to 2 weeks to applicants aspiring to join corporations in Shillong or beyond.

The initial training focused on individual skills, covering areas such as answering questions and body language. As demand grew, Rudy found himself involved in more extensive training sessions. Responding to the requests of his students, he conceptualized the idea of specifically training individuals in communication skills. The journey began with basic interactions and evolved to encompass both English and communication skills.

In its earlyrly stages, the team operated from a modest 400 sq. feet office. The success and appreciation from students led to rapid growth, necessitating a move to a larger office within two years. Officially launched on April 1, 2012, the organization is registered under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME). Services include Technical and Vocational education and Educational Support. Initially started with English language courses, the training services later extended to Computer Application, French and Hindi language courses, and recently, stenography. Plans for the upcoming year include incorporating Python into their curriculum.

Typically, the duration of the courses is a minimum of three years, with no set limit, allowing students to pursue their studies for as long as they desire. Upon completion of the course, students receive certificates corresponding to their chosen program.

From its inception, the primary mission of the training center has been employability, a goal realized in recent years. A significant portion of students enrolls for personal development,

seeking to enhance confidence and public speaking skills. The diverse student body includes housewives, teachers, and also research scholars aiming to improve grammar skills and enhance their theses.

Challenges emerged along the way, notably the initial struggle to secure loans, leading Rudy to invest his own savings to kickstart the business. Adapting to the unique challenge of training people in English, Rudy had to undergo retraining or seek external guidance. This pivotal moment came when he connected with Professor Jakob Shylla from the English department at St. Anthony's college, who served as a mentor, offering guidance and recommending essential reading materials. These resources proved invaluable, providing insights into not only communication skills but also the nuances of the English language.

However, the most significant challenge arose in 2019 when the training center relocated to a larger space just as the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Forced to close the physical premises for a year and a half, Rudy adapted by shifting to online classes, maintaining a commitment to quality education while offering affordable rates to students during a challenging period.

Since its inception, the training center has achieved remarkable success, incorporating numerous employees and students. These students hail not only from Meghalaya but also from outside the state and even the country. Remarkably, they hold the distinction of being the highest-rated training center in the state.

At present, the center proudly accommodates a family of over 100 students, supported by a dedicated faculty of five teachers. Among them, Pdiangtihun Swer imparts knowledge in Stenography, Ewanmisakani Suchiang specializes in computer education, Lucy Mary Buam focuses on English instruction, Bashisha Marngar serves as an assistant, and Rudy Lyngdoh is the proprietor.

The center's commitment to providing top-notch education transcends the physical training space, extending to online platforms such as Instagram and YouTube. This strategic expansion ensures that students not only within the center but also those accessing virtual platforms receive the highest quality education available. The emphasis on delivering excellence remains a driving force, contributing to their status as a premier training institution.

In essence, the training center has become a beacon of educational success, drawing students from diverse backgrounds and geographical locations. The faculty's commitment to excellence, both within the traditional classroom setting and the digital realm, solidifies the center's reputation as a leader in providing exceptional education.
